Mah Meri, very means Mah - People and Meri referred to as jungle are one of the indigenous tribe found in peninsular Malaysia, now living in the region of Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Johore State.
Pulau Carey, Selangor will be the closest destination for us to visit. We wanted to know more about them, meanwhile photographing as our interest, and did some shopping there.
We called up Reita Rahim; a freelance craft researcher specialising in crafts made by indigenous people; found Gerai OA which is a 100% non profitable organisation to help these people to attain some income from their daily craft’s work, she guided us for the visit and we had tea together.
At which, Mah Meri @ Pulau Carey, are good at the Padaneouse leaves weaving and wood blocks crafting for figures and masks. They also perform dances occasionally for the Culture Centre Kuala Lumpur and the National Museum of Kuala Lumpur, a private session for a dance which involve 20 people can be arranged at a fee.
You may check up for more information regarding the people from Gerai OA; and hope to have supports from you guys out there!
